Info About Cruises
Many people resist going on cruises because they listen to the myths about catching an illnesses easily due to there being such a large number of people in close proxemics of one another. To a point where this is true you also have to think about the fact that when you go anywhere aboard you always run the risk of getting ill due to a new country, culture and food, so this really shouldn't stop you from embarking on your first cruise!
One illness which is particular associated with cruise liners in the norovirus, which I caught via touching things such as doorknobs and staircases - anything a number of other people could have touched and contaminated food and water. Only one in ten people on a cruise is likely to get the norovirus yet any outbreaks in the past have hit the headlines, which is the reason why so many people are too scared to cruise.
The symptoms of the norovirus are sickness; diarrhea and stomach cramps, the person may have suffer from a fever and headaches. After you have recovered from the norovirus you are still able to pass it on for up to 2 weeks. Although this may sound daunting you are easily able to prevent catching the illness through maintain a healthy diet, making sure you get plenty of exercise and sleep will keep your immune system strong. If you make sure that you always wash your hands with soap and warm water before you eat and whenever you have been out in a public place is also a good idea, also carrying a bottle of anti-bacterial hand wash can be useful. If there is an outbreak of the norovirus it may also be a good idea to use your own bathroom rather than the ships public ones just to be on the safe side, also avoid getting close to people you don't know as they could have the virus or be carrying the symptoms. By doing this and keeping your vitamins and mineral intake high you should be able to enjoy every day of your cruise feeling as healthy as ever!
Avoid letting seasickness ruin your cruise
Another myth that tends to prevent people from going on a cruise is seasickness, some believe that as soon as you step on a cruise liner you will catch it - this just isn't true! Thousands of people go on cruise holidays and don't suffer at all from it, however some people do and this is because they are prone to it, you can use medication to help you if you are more prone to seasickness but it is sometimes a better idea to let it run its course as it will soon disappear when your body has had chance to get to grips with the motion and to get your sea legs!
If you know you are likely to suffer from sickness then you can help yourself in a number of ways, firstly staying in a midship cabin will prevent you from feeling the ships motion and drinking lots of water will help. Having seasickness doesn't need to be a reason for your cruise getting ruined, if can actually make you get up and join in like you wouldn't necessarily have done if you had been fine. This may sound like the last thing you think you'd want to do if you were suffering from sickness but the best thing you can do is get up and keep moving, joining in the activities both on and off board will allow you to take in lots of fresh air and it will also take your mind off how you are feeling. By doing this it also allows your body to get used to the ships natural movements whilst your mind is elsewhere.
One thing that you should try not do to is lie down - I know it's probably the first and only thing you will want to do but it is actually the worse thing for you. This is because when you are laying down not only is your mind concentrated on one thing - how rubbish you are feeling but your body is able to feel the boats rocking a lot more, making you feel even worse. Another thing that's good to try and avoid is any food that isn't tried and trusted, as much as you may want to sample some of the more exotic dishes its best whilst your stomach is a bit uneasy to stick to the food you know wont come back to haunt you, just until your body has found it's sea legs anyway!
Your seasickness may lead you to finding out all sorts of things as the best thing for you is to keep up and moving you may discover shops and bars you wouldn't have, or even better than that - someone new and interesting! So don't let seasickness prevent you from hitting the sea's and making new friends!
